Attorneys sought to help those in Sandy’s wake

Dear New Jersey County and Specialty Bar Leaders:

Please share this with your membership.

The New Jersey State Bar Association has activated its Mass Disaster Response Program and is seeking volunteer attorneys to provide legal guidance to individuals affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Through the program volunteer attorneys are matched with storm victims who need general legal guidance.

“As attorneys we have an obligation to reach out to people in need. Hurricane Sandy left many Garden State residents vulnerable and in need of legal assistance, and we are anxious to help them,” said New Jersey State Bar Association President Kevin P. McCann.

The attorney volunteers will likely be assisting members of the public with various storm-related issues, including insurance-related claims, and landlord-tenant, business, bankruptcy, land use and environmental law matters.

Volunteers are asked to sign a pledge that they will provide pro bono assistance to storm victims and complete a contact information form. To download a copy of the pledge and the information form, visit www.njsba.com.

To volunteer or find out more, contact Rita Seborowski at rseborowski@njsba.com.
