Kirsten Scheurer Branigan

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:

KIRSTEN SCHEURER BRANIGAN is the owner of the Law Office of Kirsten Scheurer Branigan, P.C., a 100% woman-owned employment law firm, which handles employment law and litigation matters on behalf of both employees and employers, and conducts independent workplace investigations. Ms. Branigan just commenced a two year term as President of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association, was appointed to the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Diversity Committee, and was appointed to serve on the Executive Women of New Jersey Board of Directors, as Chair of the By-laws Committee. Ms. Branigan recently received a Professional Lawyer of the Year Award (2006), which was bestowed by the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism and the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association. She is married and the mother of two small children. Ms. Branigan, both in her role as President of New Jersey Women Lawyers Association and personally, is dedicated to the advancement and retention of women in the law. She is likewise committed to efforts to steer the legal profession toward enabling more flexibility for both men and women and to retain a diverse and talented legal community at all times.

Ms. Branigan has 10+ years’ experience exclusively in the area of employment law and litigation and has performed numerous independent investigations in both the private and public sectors. She has handled and managed employment litigation, including complex class actions and multiple party matters. With respect to her investigation work, she has: conducted independent investigations in the pharmaceutical, communications, information technology, manufacturing, education, health-care, and publishing industries for national (including Fortune 200 and 500), international, domestic companies, public entities, small businesses, educational institutions, hospitals, and non-profit organizations; issued comprehensive written summaries of interviews and/or investigation reports; and provided sworn testimony as an independent investigator. From 1995-2005, Ms. Branigan practiced in the area of employment law at Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, PA and handled plaintiff and defense litigation matters and conducted numerous independent workplace investigations. After Wilentz, she became a flex-time partner with Fischer, Porter & Thomas, P.C. and oversaw the firm’s employment law practice area. While attending Rutgers Law School, she interned for U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald J. Hedges, D.N.J. and worked as a law clerk in the Jersey City Office of the Corporation Counsel in 1993-1994.

Ms. Branigan has also routinely conducted sexual harassment, anti-harassment/discrimination and anti-retaliation training, drafted policies/ procedures and employment handbooks and provided counseling with respect to employment contracts, executive compensation packages, collective bargaining agreements and severance agreements, as well as counseling regarding preventative and remedial measures to public and private employers. She has also handled and managed litigation on both the plaintiff and defense side involving numerous types of employment law claims filed in NJ State and federal courts, the Office of the Administrative Law Courts, administrative agencies, such as the EEOC and NJDCR, as well as arbitrations filed with the American Arbitration Association.

She is a member of Executive Women of New Jersey, the Essex County Democratic Women’s Political Caucus, the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA), NELA-NJ, the Labor and Employment Sections of the New Jersey State and American Bar Association, the Rutgers Alumni Association, Women’s Political Caucus of New Jersey, the Women in the Profession Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Morris County chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management, and the North Essex Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Branigan earned her B.A. in History and Political Science with high honors in 1992 from Rutgers College, her J.D. from Rutgers Law School–Newark in 1995 and graduated in 1988 from Saint Dominic Academy, Jersey City.
