BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:
MERYL A. G. GONCHAR is a partner of Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP in its Real Estate Department and chair of its Land Use Practice Group. She concentrates her practice in land use and zoning and land use litigation. She appears before planning and zoning boards throughout the state and administrative agencies on behalf of property owners and developer clients in connection with all types of residential, commercial and industrial projects. Ms. Gonchar has successfully represented clients in the development of all types of projects from strip malls and other small retail facilities to shopping centers; two-lot minor subdivisions to hundreds of single-family and multi-family homes; warehouse and industrial facilities; and hundreds of thousands of square feet of office space. She also represents clients in land use, condemnation and related litigation before the New Jersey Supreme Court and Superior Court of New Jersey. Among her successful litigation efforts was achieving dismissal of a municipal condemnation of land approved for development of almost 400 homes, including affordable homes.
Ms. Gonchar is listed in Chambers USA - America’s Leading Business Lawyers 2005-2006 in the Real Estate: Zoning/Land Use practice area and The Best Lawyers in America in the Real Estate category. She has spoken and written on a variety of land use related topics including on the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act and has served as a lecturer for the New Jersey Association of Realtors - Graduate Realtor Institute, the Atlantic Builders Conference, the Institute for Continuing Legal Education and before various financial institutions and professional organizations. For the past 10 years she has served as a panelist and moderator for the annual Land Use Update presented by the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. Ms. Gonchar is the co-author of “Zoning and Land Use Litigation,” Chapter 12 in Matthew Bender & Co., Inc., New Jersey Land Use and Environmental Law, 1993.
She is a past Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Land Use Law Section and has served as a member of the Legislative Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association. She also is a member of the Section of Urban, State and Local Government Law of the American Bar Association. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association and a member of Executive Women of New Jersey. Ms. Gonchar is a Past President and member of Industrial/Commercial Real Estate Women - New Jersey (ICREW-NJ), where she also served on the Board of Directors in the positions of Vice President and Director of Programming, President-Elect and delegate to CREW Network, the national organization. Ms. Gonchar is a member of the Executive Board of The Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County and a member of the Steering Committee of the Monmouth University Kislak Real Estate Institute Annual Leadership Excellence Award Dinner. She also served for a dozen years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick.
