Susan K. O’Connor

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:

Susan K. O'Connor is a partner with the law firm of Hoagland Longo Moran Dunst & Doukas LLP, in New Brunswick, NJ and leads the firm's employment and municipal litigation departments, representing employers and municipalities, as well as individual officers, directors, and elected officials before State and Federal Trial/Appellate Courts and Agencies. In addition to representing municipalities and employers in matters involving Title VII claims, the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), whistle blower claims (CEPA), Ms. O'Connor also provides training designed to assist clients in conforming their workplace practices to Federal and State laws, drafts or modifies existing personnel policies, and performs comprehensive investigations of employee misconduct claims. She also litigates claims made against municipal entities for Constitutional violations, including alleged excessive use of force, false arrest, inadequate police protection and failure to hire or promote based upon political affiliation.

In September, 2005, the New Jersey Law Journal chose Ms. O'Connor as one of the State's leading female lawyers. She earned this prestigious distinction based on her outstanding performance, high professional character and competency in her field.

Ms. O'Connor has also achieved an "AV" rating from other members of the legal profession. This is the highest rating awarded and it identifies a lawyer with "very high to preeminent legal ability" and is a reflection of her "expertise, experience, integrity and overall professional excellence" as published in Martindale-Hubbell.

She has lectured for United States Customs and Border Protection, Somerset Police Academy, ATLA, ICLE, Lorman Education Services, the New Jersey Fraternal Order of Police, and to various municipal entities and third party administrators. She is a member of the Defense Research Institute, Employment Law Division and affiliated with the New Brunswick, Hunterdon County, Middlesex County, New Jersey State and Federal Bar Associations.

Ms. O'Connor has published articles on employment law and municipal litigation. Her most recent article, entitled "Public Employee Termination Issues", is part of a compendium entitled "Employment Law- E-Desk Reference" which can be purchased at www.DRI.org.

Ms. O'Connor has practiced law at Hoagland Longo Moran Dunst & Doukas, LLP since 1988.
