Deputy Attorney General 2 – OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL DEPARTMENT OF LAW AND PUBLIC SAFETY

An opportunity currently exists in the unclassified service within the Department of Law & Public Safety, Division of Law, for applicants who meet the requirements specified below:

TITLE: Deputy Attorney General 2 or Deputy Attorney General 1

SALARY: $79,247.71 to $114,890.41 $91,735.50 to $128,428.42

NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: One (1)

DUTIES: The supervisor of the Internet Privacy and Data Protection unit will have primary responsibility for supervising civil enforcement of state and federal internet privacy and data protection laws and regulations, including the N.J. Consumer Fraud Act, the Computer Related Offenses Act, the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The work of the unit will include responding to data breaches, unauthorized collection and dissemination of personal information and computer hacking. The supervisor will identify potential targets of investigations, supervise investigations and lawsuits (some of which will proceed on a multistate basis through the National Association of Attorneys General), personally handle selected matters and coordinate the activities of investigators in the Division of Consumer Affairs with the work of Division of Law Deputies.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor. Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey required.

EXPERIENCE: DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL 2: Four (4) years of experience as a practicing attorney, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity; or, DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL 1: Five (5) years of experience as a practicing attorney, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to candidates who have relevant experience in internet privacy and data protection matters.
