NUTLEY CELEBRATES WOMEN DURING WOMEN’S
HISTORY MONTH THIS MARCH

Women’s History Month is important to many because it focuses on the struggles and strides of women throughout history.  This month is designed to celebrate the accomplishments of women.  The Women’s Initiative of Nutley takes this ideology and magnifies it.
A popular segment of the program is the Elementary School Panel Assembly.  Women with many different careers and backgrounds are featured during assemblies to 5th and 6th graders throughout the District.  This year we have speakers ranging from a published author to a make-up artist.
“All About Me…A Program For Women, By Women”. Monday, March 19 tentatively scheduled at the Nutley High School, 300 Franklin Avenue, Nutley. This night will be moderated by Dr. Jeanine Downie, Director of Image Dermatology of Montclair. Registration begins at 6:30pm, with the program running from 7pm to 9pm.
International Night: Women in Conflict
Monday, March 26 from 7:00 pm to 8:30pm
at the Nutley Free Public Library.  This night will feature speakers covering serious topics such as woman’s rights in Iraq and the Middle East, and gender-based violence. Our women speakers are experts in their field and have been interviewed by the BBC and CNN on these topics.  Janine Strafaci, a Nutley native and co-anchor for News Channel 12 New Jersey, has been invited to moderate the evening.
The Nutley Public Library is proud to be a part of this month’s festivities with two special events.  On Saturday, March 10 at 1pm they will host a program featuring a representative from the Alice Paul Institute talking about Alice Paul and her fight for the Equal Rights Amendment.  On Thursday, March 15 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm they will host “Champagne and High Tea with New York Times Best-Selling Mystery Author Mary Jane Clark.”  Mary Jane Clark will discuss her recent best-seller Lights Out Tonight.  The event will be catered by The Petite Café and the evening will kick off with champagne being served at 7:00pm.  Tickets are limited and cost $35 each.  Reservations forms are available at the Library.
The Mayor also encourages women to take advantage of the Women’s Health Clinic on March 7 from 9am to 12pm.  Held at the Department of Public Affairs, 149 Chestnut Street, Nutley, the clinic will focus on women’s health offering pap smears, breast exams, urinalysis and blood tests for anemia.   The clinic is free to women over 60; all others pay $20.  Please contact 973-284-4976 for an appointment.
FOR MORE INFORMATION:
For more information about the programs, please contact the Mayor’s office or visit www.nutleynj.org.  Pre-Registration is encouraged for both the “All About Me” and “International Night” segments by contacting Ann Marie Nicolette at 973-284-4900, Ext. 2421.
