General Counsel

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Counsel will be responsible for managing the overall operations of the legal function of the Bank and advise executives and management on all legal, regulatory, compliance and strategic management.  The General Counsel will also lead a team of eight (8) direct reports. Position is based in Short Hills, NJ.

The responsibility of General Counsel is to provide direct legal support to the Bank’s executive management team, business units and other support centers in the areas of litigation, corporate governance matters, employment and labor issues. In addition, the General Counsel will provide support with Board and internal policies, mergers and acquisitions, vendor management, risk management, regulatory filings, general corporate matters and SEC reporting.  A key function of this role will be to help ensure that the legal rights of the Bank are protected, that its legal obligations and potential exposures are well defined and understood by management and that the Bank and its affiliates comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Our ideal candidate will be a hands-on strategic thought leader who can operate at the C-suite as well as all other levels inside and outside the Bank. This role requires someone with minimally 15 years corporate practice experience, prior representation of banking clients or employment within the banking industry.
