Associate Attorney

A leading Hispanic Law Firm in the New York Metropolitan Area is seeking a highly motivated Associate Attorney admitted in New Jersey for its practice in its Union City, NJ office.

Candidate must be admitted to the New Jersey bar with 1 – 3 years’ experience.  This position will primarily focus on divorce and family law (including custody disputes, domestic violence, child support, etc.), as well as criminal defense cases in Municipal and Superior Courts. Experience may also include clerkship with Judges in a relevant field, or internships with the Public Defender’s office, District Attorney’s office, etc.

Fluency in Spanish is preferred, and a desire to genuinely assist clients is mandatory. Candidates must be willing to learn new areas of law, take an open minded approach to gaining new experiences, and develop as a well-rounded attorney. 

Admission to Connecticut and/or New York bars is a plus and encouraged if offered a position.

Candidate must possess the following skills:

  • Must be able to prepare pleadings, motions, and briefs as needed.
  • Must be able to appear in various courts, both in person and virtually. In person appearances require access to a car.
  • Must be able to direct cases through litigation cycle, review new files for coverage, and develop a cost effective litigation strategy.
  • Must be able to think strategically and handle large volume of cases.
  • Must be a team player, reliable, and demonstrate ability to work directly with clients, many of whom only speak Spanish.
  • Must be able to organize and track case status and assist in the management of attorney court appearances, calendars and client matters.
  • Must have good writing and communication skills, ability to prioritize and work under a tight schedule, ability to multi-task, in depth knowledge of legal terminology and principles, and the ability to analyze legal documents for accuracy.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a major plus.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams/Zoom software.

Admission to the New Jersey State bar with 1 – 3 years’ experience is ideal, but willing to train the right person.   Experience may also include clerkship with Judges in a relevant field, or internships with the Public Defender’s office, District Attorney’s office, etc.

  • Admission to the New York State bar, Connecticut State bar, Federal Districts Courts, and/or bankruptcy court is a plus.

  • Letters of recommendation are not necessary but will be considered
