SALARY: $122,564.63 to $181,343.73
LOCATION: Division of Criminal Justice, Executive Staff
Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex, 25 Market Street, Trenton, NJ
Statewide travel between office locations required for work responsibilities.
NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: One (1)
DUTIES: Under administrative direction of the Director of the Division of Criminal Justice (the Division) and the Director’s Executive Staff on Division and Department projects and initiatives; performs extensive research and writing on complex legal issues and those of first impression; assists with interpretation and analysis of law, regulations, and other official instrumentalities; handles prosecutions of sexual assaults and other violent crimes; participates in the development of expertise in sexual crimes; interprets and enforces criminal statutes; coordinates legal and related activities involving federal and local jurisdictions; coordinates with County Prosecutors Offices; prosecutes multi-jurisdictional sexual offenders; oversees aspects of investigation, including but not limited to case assessment, research, memorandum writing, court appearances, court filings (motions, briefs), attorney correspondence and case management; drafts legal applications and pleadings; works closely with law enforcement in the development of case investigation; performs other related work as required. This position may also require non-traditional work hours, on an as needed basis, including evenings and weekends on short deadlines for certain assignments, with or without advance notice. This position may require availability for on-call duty outside of regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as necessary to address urgent or critical matters. The selected candidate must be prepared to respond, remotely or on-site, as directed by supervisory staff and in accordance with established protocols and procedures, to perform the essential duties of the position.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor. Admission to practice as an Attorney at Law in the State of New Jersey is required.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience as a practicing attorney, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey.
PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to candidates with at least (3) three years of experience prosecuting sexual offense cases and/or demonstrated experience handling sexual crime prosecutions. Preference will be given to candidate who has experience prosecuting sexual-offense cases in multiple legal jurisdictions or who has education and expertise in the prosecution of sexual-offense cases in multiple legal jurisdictions.
