THE NEW JERSEY WOMEN LAWYERS ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES THE NOMINATION OF JUDGE KETANJI BROWN JACKSON

NJWLA applauds the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on her historic and well-deserved nomination to become the 116th Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Once confirmed, Judge Jackson will be the first Black woman Justice in the Court’s 233-year history. Judge Jackson’s exceptional credentials, experience, and dedication to the rule of law makes her an exceptionally qualified candidate to fill the vacancy due to the retirement of Justice Stephen Breyer.

Humbled by the nomination, Judge Jackson stated, “I can only hope that my life and career, my love of this country and the Constitution… will inspire future generations of Americans.” Judge Jackson has done just that; she is an inspiration to all women who are striving to shatter barriers in the legal profession to accomplish their dreams. As a Black woman, she will bring a well needed diverse perspective to the Court from her own life experiences. As Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg so elegantly stated, “When I’m sometimes asked ‘When will there be enough [women on the Supreme Court]?’ . . . I say, ‘When there are nine.’”

Please take a moment to view this powerful video posted by Vice President Kamala Harris that helps to highlight the historic nature of this nomination!
